3 100 mg Sachets: $80/box

1 bottle of 120 capsules, 250 mg each: $330/bottle

1 Set of 30 bottles 50 ml each, 2125 mg per bottle: $880/set

Quick Comparison

  •  Two questions. Why on earth would you spend $330 for 60,  212.5 mg capsule of some Mozuku, Mekabu and Agaricus mycelium  that has no standardization process to guarantee your getting actual fucoidan? And, Why would you buy fucoidan derived from seaweed contaminated by the ongoing radiation leaks from the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster? You wouldn’t. Enough said.

Review

Umi No Shizuku Does Not Want You to Read This

Umi No Shizuku’s label clearly states that their seaweed is harvested in Japan.  I routinely sound the  alarm on several fucoidan supplements who do not disclose their exact source location in Japan because exposure to radiation is more likely on the eastern shore.

As you know, fucoidan comes from seaweed. Seaweed grows in the ocean. Most Japanese wakame is harvested in tidal harbor waters on the eastern coast of Japan, from Miyagi, Iwate, and Tokushima. Miyagi is next to Fukushima.  The Fukushima disaster site as of mid 2016 is still pouring unnaturally high levels of radiation into the Pacific Ocean. I cannot stress this enough. The wakame coming out of Japan is more than likely contaminated. This means that the fucoidan molecules have been compromised.

Contrary to popular thought the contamination is not over. Many radiochemists are puzzled by the “persistence of these low but significant levels of radioactivity in the ocean,” (34) which seem to be coming from radioactive sediments in and around Japan. In these sediments cesium radioisotopes are “still being measured at several tens to hundreds of becquerels per cubic meter in this area!” They’ve concluded that there is a “continuous input of radioactivity through food sources feeding on this sediment. (34)

Additionally, continuous breaches of radiation containment around the plant. The Japan Times, News Week, The NY Times and The Huffington Post report that the Fukushima plant has been plagued by a staggering number of accidents allowing hundreds of tons of radioactive waters to flow into the Pacific Ocean since the accident, further polluting the harbors where wakame and other seaweeds are harvested.

It is worth pointing out early on that an individual can absorb many nonlethal doses of radiation without noticeable health changes, but overall long-term absorption contributes to the risk of cancer and other health abnormalities.  You simply cannot risk further contamination if you are already dealing with compromised immunity.   I don’t write this to scare  you but to encourage you to be cautious and stay away from Umi No Shizuku.

If some one reading this review site has a Geiger counter and has some Umi No Shizuku, please send me the results and I will post them. It is important that we are all informed, especially if we’re paying $330.00 for an irradiated product with damaged fucoidan.

Predatory Practices and Unstandardized Fucoidan

Umi No Shizuku® is one of the oldest brands of Japanese seafood. Their products are “all-natural” but not Organic. Their fucoidan products are expensive (to say the least), without any evidence of standardized content.Take a look at their exuberant pricing structure:

  • 3 100 mg Sachets: $80/box
  • 1 bottle of 120 capsules, 250 mg each: $330/bottle
  • 1 Set of 30 bottles 50 ml each, 2125 mg per bottle: $880/set

I was immediately put-off by the prices. Some people may think that a higher price and flashy gold-foil marketing, means higher quality, but this is not so.  Many people looking for natural alternatives to cancer treatment can be in a state of  heightened emotion. In my opinion, this product is marketed toward those people who are desperate and maybe willing to spend more for something they think is better.

I was unable to get the exact measurement of [simple_tooltip content=’“Standardized” fucoidan means that each dose has a guaranteed amount of fucoidan along with the same absorption profile. Whether it’s your first pill or it’s your last,  each pill contains the stated standardized amount of fucoidan.’]Standardized fucoidan[/simple_tooltip]  and was told that this information was confidential by the brand’s representatives. That is unfortunate. Without knowing the percentage of standardization, there is no way to tell just how much fucoidan is in each pill (if any).  Based on the information on their Supplement Facts label, the wakame portion of the blend could be as low as 126 mg, with the actual amount of fucoidan in Umi No Shizuki could conceivably be anywhere from as little as 12 mg (standardized at 10%) to a maximum of  100 mg (standardized at 90%). Not good.

Why Standardization?

If you look at a typical ingredient label, you will see a list of ingredients and the amount that each defined serving size contains. Many beneficial isolated molecules, such as fucoidan, come from nature. Fucoidan comes from brown algae, but brown algae in and of itself is not going to contain a predictable or high level of fucoidan without a standardization process. For example just putting 250 mg of brown algae on a label does NOT mean you are actually getting 250 mg of fucoidan. In fact, some supplements have been shown to have little to no active or standardized ingredients at all.  Claims companies make on their website are not regulated like facts presented on the Supplement Facts label, where there is stiff penalties for false information. Umi No Shizuku makes alot of claims but there is little evidence to back them up!

If you’ve made it this far, you know Umi No Shizuku is a bad choice. But what brand can give you standardized fucoidan, gently extracted, and sourced from radiation-free water?

Good News! Fucoidan Force™ derives their fucoidan from 100% Organic wakame, – free from radiation and sourced from the Atlantic Ocean. Fucoidan Force™ is made in the USA in a cGMPs FDA approved facility.

You are guaranteed 400 mg of standardized Organic Super U-100 fucoidan from Undaria pinnatifida (wakame) extract, plus a generous 250 mg of Reishi mushroom extract.
